幕后花絮
本片导演约翰·舒尔茨此前指导过阿德林·格林内尔主演的轻松喜剧《让我疯狂》，以及一部鲜有人提起的《花车》，而他下一部发目标将是“天才瑞普利”系列小说的一集搬上银幕。而影片的编剧迈克尔·艾列特则是一位初出茅庐的新手。

剧情简介
生活在孤儿院的凯文和小伙伴们得到了一批慈善人士的捐助品，其中有一双写有NBA顶级篮球明星迈克尔·乔丹名字缩写的篮球鞋。凯文认定那是乔丹小时候穿过的鞋，对它爱不释手。但是捣蛋鬼阿克斯却强行抢下了球鞋，并将它扔到了电线上。
风雨交加的深夜，凯文偷偷爬上大树想要把鞋拿下来，一声雷鸣将凯文和球鞋都击落了下来，幸好凯文没有受伤。穿上了心爱的球鞋，凯文和伙伴们一起到赛场观看NBA骑士队的比赛。由于比赛上座率低，经纪人想到了让著名球员特西与观众互动的点子来带动现场气氛。凯文成为了幸运观众并被邀请上台和特西进行比赛。面对心中的偶像，凯文兴奋不已。本以为只是一次普通的垫场表演，却令凯文和特西以及当时在场的所有观众终身难忘。穿着乔丹篮球鞋的凯文竟然三次突破特西的防守并投篮命中，其中甚至还有灌篮，对这个身高只有5英尺的男孩来说简直是不可思议。
经纪人找到凯文的监护人比特曼，并签订了让凯文加入骑士队的协议，比特曼从中赚取了大量佣金。凯文开始随骑士队参加各种比赛，只要有他在场，就能调动全队的气氛，比赛上座率大大提升，很多人开始追捧这个只有14岁的男孩。经纪人视凯文为宝，经过教练同意，凯文被安排与特西住在同一房间。对于凯文在大庭广众之下打败自己，特西心中多少有些不自在，但在特西看来，凯文到底只是个孩子，或许只是运气好。但凯文却一如既往地崇拜特西，他们一起练球，一起玩耍，不久便成为了好朋友。凯文十分希望能和特西长期住在一起，如果特西可以收养自己就太好了。但当凯文得知特西和自己的父亲许多年来都没有来往时，他失望了。一个对亲生父亲都如此冷淡的人又怎么能做自己的养父，承担起照顾下一代的责任呢。尽管如此，凯文还是找机会联系到了特西的父亲，让他们相见。可惜结果并不像凯文想像的那样，特西和父亲不欢而散。
在凯文和特西的配合下，骑士队终于迎来了最关键的比赛——如果打赢就可以进入NBA总决赛，这是骑士队有史以来的最好成绩，大家都不想轻易放弃。然而此刻比特曼却打起了凯文的主意，他从阿克斯口中得知凯文的球技全靠脚上的那双鞋，于是设计让凯文离开，并将球鞋藏了起来。比特曼到黑市赌球，并极有信心地宣称凯文将不会参加这场比赛，他押重金就等着看骑士队输掉这场比赛。
已经归队的凯文发现球鞋不见了，他立即返回孤儿院，并发动好朋友们帮自己寻找球鞋。最终在比特曼的保险箱里发现了球鞋。黑社会的拦截并没有阻止凯文归队，凯文的到来为球队带来了转机。但比赛中凯文的球鞋却被踩坏了，他知道自己的神奇力量将不复存在，他想到了退缩。但特西却鼓励凯文打完比赛，并深信他将战胜自我。终于在凯文和特西的配合下，骑士队赢得了比赛。凯文宣布退出骑士队做一个普通的孩子，此刻特西才发现自己已经无法和凯文分开。他试着和父亲沟通，发现其实并没有想像中的那么困难。特西到孤儿院办理了领养凯文的手续，这让凯文喜出望外，他的愿望终于实现了，他将拥有一个真正的家，最重要的是和自己的队友、偶像生活在一起。
