剧情简介
罗德里格斯在上世纪70年代发行过两张专辑《Cold Fact》与《Coming From Reality》，在南非有超过50万的销量且知名度可与滚石乐队相提并论。但与其他知名的美国歌手不同，南非的歌迷得不到任何一点关于罗德里格斯的信息，除了专辑歌曲之外唯一能了解的只有专 辑封面上一张并不清晰的相片。两张专辑后，他好像也就此销声匿迹。
对于在南非的辉煌成绩，罗德里格斯其实并不知情，他在美国过着截然不同的生活，没有知名度，专辑销量不佳，被唱片公司抛弃，曾经一度做着装修屋顶的体力活…… 南非开普敦一家唱片店老板斯蒂芬与音乐记者克雷格听到罗德里格斯在舞台上奇特自杀的传闻后展开调查，寻找小糖人之路就此开始，一段神秘的传奇故事就此展开。

幕后花絮
影片原计划拍成一部短片。最终拍摄访问时间从原本的六个月延长达六年。使用的器材从昂贵精密的超八摄影机到将就即兴的iphone。导演本德让劳尔
为了拍摄它几近破产。这段期间他投下了8万美元，
还亲自为影片创作了配乐。
因为制作经费紧张，瑞典导演马利克·本德让劳尔用自己手中的iphone里头可以下载的APP 1.99美元
拍摄了这部片子最后10%的内容。
本德让劳尔曾经给著名的美国纪录片制片人西蒙·齐恩(Simon Chinn)打去电话，告诉他自己有一个“媲美《走钢丝的人》”的故事。最终在看了一些已经完成的影片片段之后，齐恩签约成为了这部电影的制作人，一方面给拍摄带来了资金，另一方面能提高整部电影的知名度。
2011年底，影片被选为2012年美国圣丹斯独立电影节的开幕片。
电影导演马利克·本德耶卢(Malik Bendjelloul)表示，最后阶段用iPhone进行的拍摄与其他部分拍摄的效果“几乎一样好”。而Naxvio总裁Chi Hongyu则表示，他观看了奥斯卡颁奖典礼的直播，并对结
果感到非常高兴。
他表示：“8mm Vintage Camera应用被许多独立音乐人在音乐视频拍摄中使用，而目前则被剧情电影，一部奥斯卡获奖电影使用。对我们来说，这是一个令人惊喜和激动的体验。”
8mm Vintage Camera应用周一在苹果App Store中的价格仍然未变，而应用描述了则加入了有关奥斯卡奖获奖情况的信息。据了解，本片面世后已经有唱片公司跟罗德里格斯签约，他目前正在准备自己的全新专辑。对于新碟，低调谦逊的罗德里格斯称，这绝不是为了钱。
