劇情簡介
羅德裡格斯在上世紀70年代發行過兩張專輯《Cold Fact》與《Coming From Reality》，在南非有超過50萬的銷量且知名度可與滾石樂隊相提并論。但與其他知名的美國歌手不同，南非的歌迷得不到任何一點關于羅德裡格斯的信息，除了專輯歌曲之外唯一能了解的隻有專 輯封面上一張并不清晰的相片。兩張專輯後，他好像也就此銷聲匿迹。
對于在南非的輝煌成績，羅德裡格斯其實并不知情，他在美國過着截然不同的生活，沒有知名度，專輯銷量不佳，被唱片公司抛棄，曾經一度做着裝修屋頂的體力活…… 南非開普敦一家唱片店老闆斯蒂芬與音樂記者克雷格聽到羅德裡格斯在舞台上奇特自殺的傳聞後展開調查，尋找小糖人之路就此開始，一段神秘的傳奇故事就此展開。

幕後花絮
影片原計劃拍成一部短片。最終拍攝訪問時間從原本的六個月延長達六年。使用的器材從昂貴精密的超八攝影機到将就即興的iphone。導演本德讓勞爾
為了拍攝它幾近破産。這段期間他投下了8萬美元，
還親自為影片創作了配樂。
因為制作經費緊張，瑞典導演馬利克·本德讓勞爾用自己手中的iphone裡頭可以下載的APP 1.99美元
拍攝了這部片子最後10%的内容。
本德讓勞爾曾經給著名的美國紀錄片制片人西蒙·齊恩(Simon Chinn)打去電話，告訴他自己有一個“媲美《走鋼絲的人》”的故事。最終在看了一些已經完成的影片片段之後，齊恩簽約成為了這部電影的制作人，一方面給拍攝帶來了資金，另一方面能提高整部電影的知名度。
2011年底，影片被選為2012年美國聖丹斯獨立電影節的開幕片。
電影導演馬利克·本德耶盧(Malik Bendjelloul)表示，最後階段用iPhone進行的拍攝與其他部分拍攝的效果“幾乎一樣好”。而Naxvio總裁Chi Hongyu則表示，他觀看了奧斯卡頒獎典禮的直播，并對結
果感到非常高興。
他表示：“8mm Vintage Camera應用被許多獨立音樂人在音樂視頻拍攝中使用，而目前則被劇情電影，一部奧斯卡獲獎電影使用。對我們來說，這是一個令人驚喜和激動的體驗。”
8mm Vintage Camera應用周一在蘋果App Store中的價格仍然未變，而應用描述了則加入了有關奧斯卡獎獲獎情況的信息。據了解，本片面世後已經有唱片公司跟羅德裡格斯簽約，他目前正在準備自己的全新專輯。對于新碟，低調謙遜的羅德裡格斯稱，這絕不是為了錢。
